JAMA Article Reports that One in Three Americans Are Now Iron Deficient

A new study shows that nearly 1 in 3 adults in the United States are deficient in iron. Screening for iron deficiency is not routine, which makes it difficult to understand its prevalence.  Iron deficiency is linked to poorer brain health, insomnia, heart failure, and other health concerns.

4 Reasons Why You May be Iron Deficient (and not know it)
4 Reasons Why You May be Iron Deficient
(and not know it)
A Diet Too Low in Iron-Rich Foods
Only 1 mg of iron is absorbed for every 10 to 20 mg of iron-containing foods you consume. Even if you're eating iron-rich foods, you still might be falling short of daily requirements.
Malabsorption
Your body may not be absorbing all of the iron you're ingesting due to conditions like celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, H. pylori infection, and even genetics.
Acute and Chronic Blood Loss
Blood loss can occur due to injury, gastrointestinal bleeding, menstruation, blood donations, blood test, and following major surgery.
Poor Absorbing Iron Supplements
Before Ferravitin, only 1 mg of iron was absorbed for every 11 to 22 mg of ingested iron supplements. Now with Ferravitin products, you get 1 mg for every 1mg you take.
